Pat Metheny is back. De Amerikaanse jazz-gitarist lanceert op 29 januari zijn nieuw album “Orchestrion”. In verband met de “Orchestrion Tour” treedt Pat Metheny op 11 februari op in het Concertgebouw. Bekendheid wist hij te verwerven in samenspel met David Bowie in 1985 met het nummer This is not America. Als soloartiest heeft hij inmiddels meer dan 50 albums op zijn naam staan, een einde is niet in zicht.
“Nearly ten years into the new century, it has felt like the ideal moment to create something particularly connected to the reality of this unique period in time, using the best of the past with the potential of the future”. Dit is Metheny’s redenering voor het tot stand komen van “Orchestrion”. De term zelf dateert uit het begin van het 20e eeuw en vloeit voort uit het idee om middels weinig instrumenten en hele orkest te imiteren. Metheny heeft op “do-it-yourself” manier alle liederen op dit album niet alleen gecomponeerd maar tevens zelf ingespeeld, waardoor dit werk des te meer indrukwekkend is.
